Google Analytics 4 update

Hey there, My name is Eran Bucai and I support online entrepreneurs with the tech side of things.

All things Landing Pages, Funnels, Automations and Systems.

Google has done an update for their Analytics feature which you need to know about and so I recorded a short video about it and also included a DIY checklist for you to get the update done for your website.

About Google Analytics

Google Analytics is a tool to help you track the data of your website so you can make informed decisions.

You can see where people are coming from, how long they spend on each page, what pages they visited, where they drop off, and so much more.

Google has done an update called GA4, Google Analytics 4, and that means there are a few steps to set it up.

This checklist was created by my tech support team to help you DIY this process which you are welcome to follow on your own.

Keep in mind, this checklist provides a general overview of setting up Google Analytics. The steps may vary depending on your website's platform or specific requirements.

Consult the Google Analytics documentation or seek assistance from a developer if needed.

If you wish to hire my tech support team to help you do this together on Zoom, this can be done for a single payment of $50.

Or if you're in my tech support membership, this is included at no extra cost.

Here is the checklist:

  • Sign up for a Google Analytics account: Go to the Google Analytics website (analytics.google.com) and sign up using your Google account. If you don't have a Google account, create one.
  • Create a new property: Once you're signed in, click on "Admin" at the bottom left corner. In the "Account" column, click on the drop-down menu and select "Create new account." Enter the required information for your website and click "Get Tracking ID."
  • Obtain the tracking code: After creating the property, you'll be provided with a tracking ID and a tracking code snippet. Copy the entire tracking code snippet.
  • Add the tracking code to your website: Paste the tracking code snippet just before the closing </head> tag of each web page you want to track. You can manually edit the HTML code of your website or use a website management tool or content management system (CMS) to insert the code.
  • Verify the tracking code installation: Visit your website and use your browser's developer tools or a browser extension like "Google Tag Assistant" to ensure that the tracking code is installed correctly and firing on each page.
  • Set up goals (optional): If you have specific actions or conversions you want to track, such as form submissions or purchases, set up goals in Google Analytics. To do this, go to your Google Analytics account, click on "Admin," and under the "View" column, select "Goals." Follow the prompts to create your goals.
  • Enable enhanced e-commerce tracking (if applicable): If you have an e-commerce website, you can enable enhanced e-commerce tracking in Google Analytics to gain more detailed insights into your online store's performance. To set this up, go to your Google Analytics account, click on "Admin," and under the "View" column, select "E-commerce Settings." Follow the instructions to enable enhanced e-commerce tracking.
  • Set up site search tracking (if applicable): If your website has a search feature, you can set up site search tracking to understand what visitors are searching for on your site. To enable this, go to your Google Analytics account, click on "Admin," and under the "View" column, select "View Settings." Scroll down to the "Site Search Tracking" section and turn on the toggle switch. Enter the query parameter used in your site's URLs and save the settings.
  • Configure view settings: It's a good practice to review and configure the view settings in Google Analytics according to your preferences. This includes setting the default page, excluding internal traffic, enabling demographic reports, etc. To do this, go to your Google Analytics account, click on "Admin," and under the "View" column, select "View Settings." Adjust the settings as needed.
  • Wait for data to populate: After setting up Google Analytics, it may take a few hours or even up to 24 hours for data to start populating in your reports. Be patient and periodically check your account to ensure that data is being recorded properly.
